Capture funds and send payment reminders
Find out how to invoice charge a customer's saved payment method.

Overview
"Capturing funds" is the term we use for charging an amount to a customer's payment method on file.
Tip: The ability to capture funds must be enabled by your Cut+Dry onboarding analyst prior to use.
Follow these steps to use the funds capture feature within Cut+Dry Pay.
Tip: Consider setting up your customer on Auto Pay rather than manually charging. For more information, refer to Enable Auto Pay for a customer.
Review the funds capture workflow
- Capturing funds from a customer account for the first time will trigger an emailed request to the customer for authorization.
- If the customer does not specifically cancel this authorization through a link in the email, the payment method will be considered authorized and the payment will be processed after 48 hours.
- Once authorized, there is no waiting period for subsequent capture payment requests.
Set up funds capturing
Tip: Before you can complete this setup, the customer's banking or credit card information must first be on file in the app, which can be added by you or the customer. Refer to Add a payment method for a customer.
- Select Customers from the navigation menu.
- Find and select your customer.
Tip: You can search by Salesperson, use the customer filters, or start typing into the search box.
- On the customer's Profile screen, select the Invoices tab.
- From the More Actions dropdown menu, select Enable Capture Funds.
Result
A popup will list all of the payment methods the customer has on file that can be used to capture funds. Here's what the tags mean:

- Authorized (green) tag: The customer has had funds captured previously and has not opted out from the use of this payment method. This method will be automatically selected.
- Unauthorized (yellow) tag: The customer has not been asked to authorize funds capturing from this payment method. Continue to Step 5
- Request authorization for payment from your customer:
- Select the checkbox next to an unauthorized payment method.
- Select the checkbox next to an appropriate, authorized person to receive a one-click authorization email, then Send Email.
Tip: This email allows the customer to opt out. If they do nothing, this payment method will be considered authorized for capturing funds.
- Select the checkbox next to an unauthorized payment method.
Capture funds from a customer account
- Select either Customers or Pay, then find and select your customer.
- On the customer's Profile screen, select the Invoices tab.
- From the More Actions dropdown menu, select Capture Funds.
- Select the checkbox of the authorized payment method that you want to capture funds from.
- Select the checkbox of the user(s) on the account to send the confirmation email to.
Manually send a payment reminder
Tip: This section demonstrates how you can send a payment notification to a customer at any time you wish. However, Cut+Dry does also allow for automatic payment reminders. To verify whether these are set up on your account, refer to Update your Pay settings.
- Select either Customers or Pay, then find and select your customer.
- On the customer's Profile screen, select the Invoices tab.
- Select Send Payment Reminder.
Tip: Payment reminder emails will be sent to all Admin users on the customer's account.
